Understand before you choose

insideSail is a European project for learning about, discovering and comparing sailboats. Essential information is free.

Three identified layers

Documentary data shows sources and context. Editorial analysis interprets characteristics and tradeoffs. The community shares individual experiences, identified as user declarations. An opinion does not automatically change a specification.

A value may have several sources

We retain assertions and disagreements. An editorial selection identifies the chosen reference and its rationale. An unresolved conflict remains unconfirmed. Confidence describes documentary evidence, not a guarantee of a boat’s condition.

How the Finder recommends

Required criteria are assessed as met, unmet or unknown. Preferences have public weights. The score shows a match to documented criteria; coverage shows how much evidence is available. Unknowns produce ranges and unconfirmed results. Related interior preferences share a weight cap.

The limits of indicators

Calculated ratios are conventional approximations. They do not certify an individual boat’s safety, stability, comfort or ocean suitability. Configuration, maintenance, loading and actual conditions need individual assessment. STIX and AVS should only be published with suitable documentation.

Editorial independence

This first version has no active advertising, affiliate schemes or transactions. Future commercial relationships will be separately identified and must not alter specifications, technical assessments or Finder ranking.

Photographs & rights

Submitted photographs require authorisation and moderation. The homepage contextual photograph depicts a Hallberg-Rassy 35 Rasmus, by Wolfgang Bünting, published on Wikimedia Commons under CC BY-SA 4.0. Its presentation may crop the image; it does not represent other models.
