How to read data, calculations and opinions
A sourced figure is different from an estimate or opinion.
In plain language
A source-reported figure, measurement, reproducible calculation, estimate, editorial interpretation and owner experience are distinct. The application identifies each layer.
How to interpret it
When sources disagree, we preserve both. An editorially preferred value must have a reason and a verification date.
Why it matters
Provenance lets the catalogue be questioned and corrected without erasing history.
Limitations
Checking that a source states a value does not guarantee it describes every individual boat. Missing data remains missing.
In practice
In the Finder, missing data creates visible uncertainty; in the comparator, an empty cell is not zero.
