In plain language

A V-berth is a V-shaped forepeak berth. A transverse berth runs across the boat; a centreline or island bed allows side access, depending on the layout. Size, access and available height may matter more than the name.

How to interpret it

Headroom varies within the boat. A maximum figure does not describe passageways, dressing areas or space above a berth.

Why it matters

Accessible storage can keep the saloon usable during holidays or travel.

Limitations

The perception of space is personal. Wide-angle photographs can make an interior appear larger.

In practice

During a visit, test access to the berth and lockers, sit in resting areas and check where luggage and equipment would go.
