Chapter
Essential knots and hitches
Recognise the purpose of a connection before memorising its name.
Start this chapter ↗A connection can join ropes, form an eye or relate a line to a fitting. English vocabulary often distinguishes knot, bend and hitch; Portuguese usage varies with tradition and context. This lesson explains those families and separates connection form from the construction of the rope itself.
The drawing maps purposes without showing execution paths. It also distinguishes a free end, a manufactured termination and a documented splice so that inventories do not confuse different things. Knowing a name does not establish that a connection is correctly made or suitable for a particular load. Execution, checking and suitability belong to practical content with qualified review.
