Mooring lines and fenders may appear in the same photograph but work differently. A taut line transmits force along its path; a fender can deform between contacting surfaces. The drawing keeps these functions in separate panels.

Bow, stern, breast and spring labels help describe directions and attachment locations on an already-moored boat. The example reads a static arrangement without presenting it as sufficient or as a sequence to copy. Relative movement between hull, pontoon and water level connects this chapter with the next. Choosing, distributing and operating these elements requires knowledge of the place, equipment and actual conditions.
