Um veleiro com dificuldade não pode escolher livremente um sinal de capacidade de manobra reduzida. A Regra 3 diferencia circunstância excepcional de limitação pela natureza do trabalho.
A Regra 27 liga sinais a essas definições; a Regra 28 trata calado; a Regra 30 trata encalhe. A figura compara os núcleos, separados dos adicionais de movimento, fundeio e actividade.
Os pontos representam cor e ordem, enquanto as formas pretas representam marcas de dia. Não equivalem a todos os elementos de uma instalação.
Desgovernado e capacidade de manobra reduzida
Desgovernado pela Regra 27(a): duas luzes vermelhas todo o horizonte em linha vertical e duas esferas em linha vertical. Com seguimento através da água, acrescenta bordo e popa.
Não se acrescenta uma luz de mastro só por o casco normalmente usar motor. Em capacidade de manobra reduzida, excepto desminagem, 27(b) prescreve vermelho-branco-vermelho todo o horizonte e esfera-losango-esfera.
Com seguimento, acrescenta mastro ou mastros, bordo e popa; ao fundeio, acrescenta os sinais de 30, salvo a disposição especial de 27(d).
A dragagem e operações subaquáticas com obstrução acrescentam, em 27(d), duas vermelhas ou duas esferas do lado da obstrução e duas verdes ou dois losangos do lado por onde outro pode passar. Ao fundeio, usa os sinais dessa alínea em vez dos de 30.
Isso identifica um lado, mas não transmite calado disponível ou distância de passagem para qualquer barco. Para mergulho em embarcação onde a dimensão torna impraticável o conjunto completo, 27(e) tem alternativa própria, incluindo réplica rígida da bandeira A com visibilidade todo o horizonte.
Calado, desminagem e comprimento
Condicionado pelo calado é um estado definido relativamente a profundidade e largura navegáveis. A Regra 28 permite três vermelhas todo o horizonte verticais, ou cilindro, além das luzes mecânicas de 23(a).
Não exige abandonar essas luzes e não descreve todo o navio grande. A desminagem de 27(f) utiliza três verdes ou três esferas na disposição específica, além dos sinais mecânicos ou de fundeio; o texto identifica como perigosa aproximação a menos de mil metros.
Não reduzimos isto a três verdes em linha vertical nem desenhamos uma autorização fora desse limite.
A Regra 27(g) dispensa os sinais dessa regra para menos de doze metros, excepto navios em operações de mergulho. Não é uma dispensa das Regras 5 a 8 ou de todas as luzes do regulamento.
A alínea (h) distingue estes sinais dos de perigo e necessidade de assistência. Dois vermelhos não significam automaticamente emissão de Mayday.
A aprendizagem tem de conservar a regra, o comprimento e a operação que justificam cada presença ou ausência.
Encalhado é diferente de fundeado
A Regra 30(d) acrescenta às luzes de fundeio duas vermelhas todo o horizonte verticais; de dia, prescreve três esferas verticais. Para menos de doze metros, 30(f) dispensa esses adicionais, mas não apaga as luzes de fundeio prescritas por (d).
As três esferas não são a esfera simples de fundeio, nem a disposição de desminagem. Um fundo sem água suficiente e uma âncora que segura são relações físicas diferentes.
Os conjuntos podem ser parcialmente ocultados numa vista real; contar só o que se vê não demonstra o conjunto completo.
